"The Scottish Chamber of Commerce are delighted to be working with Determined to Succeed to help develop the skills of our young people.

"Skills is the number one priority for all businesses in Scotland, therefore I feel that it is vital to encourage all employers to link with schools throughout Scotland to help bring learning to life. It is important that more businesses become better engaged with young people and school staff, in a way which benefits all parties.

"I hope that schools and businesses utilise every possible opportunity to introduce new ways of engaging, making it exciting and worthwhile to all. Through partnership working with employers our young people and educational staff will become more aware and informed of the job opportunities and skill requirements needed to succeed."

Liz Cameron, Chief Executive

Who’s Involved – Liz Cameron, Scottish Chambers of Commerce: Institute of Directors, Scotland

Liz Cameron – Chief Executive Scottish Chambers of Commerce: Businesses are able to not just raise their profile; they're also able to promote what they do. They're able to promote the types of job opportunities that they have available for young people and they're also able to promote the wider aspects of the contribution that they actually make back into that local community.

The motivation, enthusiasm and sheer enjoyment that businesses get from it is really quite immense. We’re all in a win-win situation and the formula that that creates when we’re actually all working a dynamic circle together, is motivation enough. The recruitment and investment benefits of businesses working with schools and education, quite frankly, are immense.

We’re in a situation in Scotland’s economy where we have a reduction in the number of young people interested in engineering, interested in sciences, interested in tourism. These are all growing sectors for our economy so, therefore, the recruitment aspect for businesses becoming involved is [that] it gives us an opportunity to present factually and up-to-date information on what are the job opportunities in our particular sectors.
